BUMPERS FOR CRIBS: ARE THEY AS SAFE AS THEY SEEM?

If you look at any store selling nursery furniture, you will see cot bumpers; a piece of padded fabric tied to the side of the cot. I feel like a right killjoy writing this and I’m sure many people will disagree with my thoughts, because after all if the shops are selling them then they must be safe. The biggest missconception being that they help prevent injury (babies arms and legs getting stuck in between the bars) as well as making a beautiful addition to any classic nursery. I hate to break it to you but bumpers in a cot are anything but safe. In fact, they are the exact opposite. There’s one big reason that makes cot bumpers one of the …

MAX AND KAI : THE NOVEMBER UPDATE

Its crazy to think I started this blog mainly because I wanted to talk loads about my squidge of a son. It seems I often forget to talk about either of them as finding the time to sit and actually write anything coherent becomes harder the older they both get. The weeks seem to pass by in soft play, swimming, nursery shaped blurs, one day often moulding into the next. Its ok though, keeping busy that’s the way I like it. So how are my little terrors and what have they learned this month? We’ve had a bit of a mental November and it’s only the 15th, we’ve been soft play more these past few weeks than we have all year, we’ve been to the park …

GAME NIGHT WITH THE FAMILY FEAT “BUNNY JUMP”

Game Night: Being a kid in the 90’s it was all about the board games, Pop up Pirate, Kerplunk, Frustration, Hungry Hippos there’s just too many to mention! These days it seems kids are less into family game time and more video game console time. I’m forever saying to Danny the last thing I want is the boys to be stuck with a gamepad in there hands 24/7, it’s just not happening. Game night is something I’ve wanted to introduce to family life for a while now, but found the boys (especially Kai) to be far too young for the majority of games. Thanks to the lovely folk at University Games we have a solution, a game that we can all enjoy together. …

STOCKING FILLER’S:AFFORDABLE IDEAS FOR YOUR TODDLERS CHRISTMAS STOCKING

Stocking Fillers  Sourcing affordable stocking fillers for kids can be a pain, especially if you are around your kids all the time. I’ve put together two lists of my top ten stocking fillers One thing I always cherish about being little and Christmas is the special stockings my mum would make for us (all 5 of my siblings I may add). It would be the first thing you would open on Christmas morning and you could be sure it would be full of little of little puzzles and always would include a tangerine. For the first and second Christmas’s, we didn’t really think to do a Christmas stocking for Max, he was so young we just didn’t think he would appreciate it. What with …

Dear Maximus, Today is your third birthday, third! how the heck has that happened. The past three years have just flown by in a blur of good times and stressful. Stressful, because sometimes being a mummy can be blooming hard and Good because when it all comes down to it you really are a joy. Its 6 am and you are all asleep, but not me. My minds already racing about all the fun things I have planned for you today. Starting with your presents, this year selecting gifts for you has been so much easier than last year. Now you have preferences, such a strong-willed boy you know what you do and don’t like and have no issues with …

SWEARING: SHOULD YOU MODERATE YOURSELFS AS PARENTS?

This one’s a bit of an internal debate I’ve been having with myself about swearing or saying certain phrases in front of my kids. Kids pick up on everything from us, our emotions our words and mainly our mannerisms. They seem to love nothing better than to mimic all that we do. If you a straight-laced parent who never loses your cool then that’s not really something you’ll ever have to worry about (who am I kidding EVERYONE loses there shit at one point in their child’s lives). So that leads me to my next thought, knowing that kids are copycats, should we be moderating our everyday actions and the way we speak, the words we use. The biggie is …

AM I SPOILING MY CHILD WITH KINDNESS?

I’m an absolute softy when it comes to my eldest Son Maximus, it’s a well-known fact in our family.Dan tends to be the bad cop and me good. Sure I discipline him when he’s been naughty if he pushes another child or misbehaves but the majority of the time I’m probably quite lenient to his behaviour. This weekend has made me really question why I’m not harder on him. When I really thought about it I soon realised it stems from an inane need to be liked. I don’t want Max to dislike me or think of me as the mean parent, the one always telling him off or saying no. Sometimes it’s just easier (and necessary sometimes) to pick my …
